Ted (2012) Review

Are you a fan of Family Guy? I hope so. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy who also voices Peter, has taken his talents to the big screen with his first full length movie – Ted. Ted is the story of a boy named John Bennett. Bennett wasn’t a popular little boy. He didn’t have any friends. When he got a teddy bear for Christmas, he wished it would come alive and become his actual best friend. John’s wish was granted, and so we have the premise for the movie. A Teddy bear comes to life, and grows up with John. Keeping him company, and growing with him, learning some bad habits along the way. Read moreRead more

In Time (2011) Movie Review

Everybody knows the old adage “Time is Money”. What if time literally was money? In the new science fiction thriller “In Time”, humans are biologically to live until the age of 25. Once you reach 25, your clock starts ticking. Everyone gets a free year to live on, but for most people, you have to work to earn more time on the planet. Coffee, beer, food, rent, everything is purchased using time. The poor live day to day, literally. If you run out of time, you die. The rich can live forever, in their own wealthy “time zones”, while the poor die in the streets because they’ve spent their last few minutes on a meal or the rent. It is an extremely interesting premise, but one that was difficult to execute effectively. Read moreRead more

Immortals (2011) Movie Review

As a mythology buff, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Immortals. It is based on Greek mythology, specifically, the story of Theseus. This movie was created by the same team that brought us the movie 300. The 300 movie was one of my favorites when it came out, and I was hoping that Immortals wouldn’t disappoint. Limitless (2011) Review

Bradley Cooper has burst onto the Hollywood scene with films like the Hangover, Hangover 2, The A – Team, and Valentines Day. He typically plays the pretty boy heartthrob who has his way with women and gets what he wants. Limitless is a totally different genre and role for Cooper. He plays Eddie Mora, a disheveled writer who has failed at everything. His writing career is a flop, his girlfriend dumps him, and he lives in a filthy little apartment barely affording the minimal rent. Eddie is down in the dumps, and coincidentally bumps into his ex brother in law, who gives him a little pill that changes everything for Eddie. Read moreRead more

The Mechanic (2011) Review

Jason Statham has starred in a ton of action movies lately. Some have been great, others have been disappointing, but he always seems to put on a good show. When I heard about his new movie, “The Mechanic”, I figured it would be very similar to the others. Statham would play the typical hot headed killer who shoots first and asks questions later. I was totally shocked when I saw the movie. Read moreRead more

RED (2010) Movie Review

If you enjoyed the A – Team, The Losers and the Bucket List, this is the movie for you.  Red is based on a DC Comic which is about really old, over the hill ex government operatives who are trying to live normal lives.  Bruce Willis plays Frank Moses, a retired CIA covert operative living in suburbia who is clearly bored with his new lifestyle.  He spends his days eating alone and trying to woo a woman named Sarah from the pension office (Mary – Louise Parker).   It turns out that someone wants Frank killed, and one night there is a massive assault on his home. Frank may be old, but he still has moves. He easily wipes out the crew of well armed hit men and sets off to find out who wants him dead. Read moreRead more

Jonah Hex (2010) Movie Review

I am a big fan of comic book to movie adaptations. Most comic book turned movies haven’t had good reviews, however I’ve enjoyed the Fantastic Four and Spider Man series. Batman, Watchmen and the Iron Man movies all did very well in the box offices. DC Comics’ relatively unknown comic series, Jonah Hex, follows the exploits of Jonah Hex, a scarred, left for dead bounty hunter who uses big weaponry and the ability to speak to the dead to hunt his nemesis, Turnbull. Resident Evil Afterlife (2010) Review

It is rare that a video game becomes a successful movie franchise. There have been many attempts which have generally resulted in failure. The Super Mario movie was mediocre, as was the star studded Street Fighter translation. The Tomb Raider movies have seen some success, but that was mainly generated by the presence of Angelina Jolie. One of the most successful video game translations has been the Resident Evil franchise. Capcom’s survival horror game has been turned into 3 entertaining movies. The newest one, Resident Evil Afterlife, continues the trend. Read moreRead more

Salt (2010) Movie Review

When you think of Angelina Jolie, many things come to mind. She’s quite a diverse actress. She’s done action movies like the Tomb Raider series, and intense drama like Changeling. There have been a lot of spy movies released in theaters lately. I didn’t know what to expect when I heard Angelina was the leading lady in a spy movie. I know she’s talented, but I was wondering if the directors were relying on her sex appeal to generate an audience. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised after I saw SALT. Angelina does a great job as the leading lady and super spy, and yes, her Russian is actually charosho (good). Read moreRead more
