The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a season with a 8-8 record. Nothing really was great about this team. Jaguars suffered losses of 17,000 season ticket holders in 2009 and weekly television blackouts. This past offseason, another 6,000 fans chose not to renew their Jaguar season tickets. In short, the organization’s days in Jacksonville could be numbered.
As for the quarterback David Garrard was given a $60 million contract, the richest in team history after upsetting the Steelers in the 2007 Wild Card Round. Since then, Garrard has posted passer ratings of 81.7 and 83.5. He’s been prone to turnovers and the front office has questioned his desire and leadership. Read more
Now we take a look at the Tennessee Titans that started last season with six consecutive losses to start last season. Then once Vince Young took over at quarterback that made a run at the AFC playoffs before finishing at 8-8. They got the best running back in the game in Chris Johnson who rushed for 2006 yards last year with 14 rushing touchdowns. Now lets see what Vince Young can do with this team working as the number one guy for the full season.
Lets start with a look at this teams offense: Expect Vince Young now in his fifth season to be more mature and able to handle the pressure. He will definitely need to step it up and open up the passing game more also to help with the running game they have with Johnson. Titans do have Kerry Collins backing up Young if he does falter this season. I expect Young to be solid and improve on his stats from season where he passed for 1879 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 12 games played. Read more
The Houston Texans are coming off a great season in which they ended 2nd in the AFC South with a record of 9 wins and 7 losses winning there last 4 games. They unfortunately didnt make the playoffs but they did show strides of a team that is getting better year after year.
Matt Schaub lead the league in passing yards last season with 4770 yards and threw for 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Andre Johnson had another amazing season like he allways does with 1569 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. On defence Mario Williams had an amazing season with 9.5 sacks.
Now we are looking into the new season what can the Texans do. Read more
UFC Middleweight Championship
Anderson “The Spider” Silva .vs. Chael Sonnen
To say that Chael Sonnen has talked a lot of trash would be the understatement of the century. Going into this fight, Silva is obviously the favourite, although some seem to think that Sonnen has a chance if he’s able to take Silva to the ground early. The big story in this fight will be whether or not Silva acts professionally.
His last fight in against Damian Mia was a joke to say the least. Dana White stated publicly that if Silva ever disrespects an opponent like that again, he will be released from his UFC contract immediately. Whether or not that’s simply a scare tactic remains to be seen. But either way, it’s definitely a way to add some excitement to tonight’s main-event. Read more
This past Tuesday August 3rd Panathinaikos came to Toronto to play Inter Milan at the Rogers Centre. I was there sitting midfield 13th row with my brother. It ended up being a great game.
Panathinaikos is coming off a great year in which it included winning the Greek Super League and Greek Cup this past season. Inter Milan this past season won the 2010 Champions League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia titles.
It was a great game even though Inter didnt have Julio Cesar playing or Wesley Sneijder there. Early on, Inter didnt seem to intent on attacking early on as Panathinaikos was coming at Inter really strong in the early going. Djibril Cisse who played for France in the world cup put on a show early on. Read more
After hearing the arbitrator’s decision on Antti Niemi the Blackhawks have decided to walk away and make the goaltender a free agent. Niemi earned $826,875 last season, the arbitrator reward Niemi with a new salary of $2.75 million for one year.
The Blackhawks were allready up against the $59.4 million cap. They didn’t have many options either they could have signed him and traded him or signed him back and trade another player to free up space. Blackhawks have had such crazy offseason with many of there players being free agents, the Hawks dealt away a lot of there players this offseason like Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, Ben Eager and Kris Versteeg. They still got Huet and his $5.625 million cap hit. The Blackhawks have the option of sending Huet to the AHL, which would take his cap hit off the books. Campbells contract of $7 million also. Hawks are really stuck up against the cap. Read more
The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a great season last year making it to the super bowl but loosing to the Saints. Colts had a record of 14 wins and 2 losses last season and won there division.
Colts have pretty much all there core guys coming back again this season. When you got the only player in the league to win 4 mvp titles in Peyton Manning suiting up for you, you allways have a shot at winning. Manning is 34 years old and entering his 13th season in the league and it doesnt look like he is nowhere near his end.
Colts really need to improve on there ground game as last season they were 32nd in the league in rushing. Joseph Addai and Donald Brown really need to step up this season and help Manning out with atleast putting up some decent rushing numbers so all the pressure isn’t on him to pass all the time.
Offense: This team has all the tools to be really explosive like they allways are. They are allways in the top 10 in all yards offensively and total points. Reggie Wayne is a gifted athlete and one of the best receivers out there. When Wayne is double covered, tight end Dallas Clark becomes Manning’s primary option. His ability to play off the line of scrimmage or out of the slot creates mismatches and forces defenses to be reactionary. Read more
As the deadline passed saturday night the Yankees were busy working the phones trying to find ways to improve there team.
They have been working on a deal with Houston the past few days and it finally got finalized. Yankees acquired Lance Berkman from Houston in exchange for reliever Mark Melancon and minor league infielder Jimmy Paredes. Houston also sent $4 million to the Yankees.
Berkman has about more than $7.15 million remaining on the contract for this year, the Yankees will pay $3,150,273. Next season Berkman has a team option for $15 million dollars with a $2 million buyout. Berkman is having a down year this season right now hitting with a .245 average and has 13 homers and 49 rbis.
Berkman was quoted as saying “In one way, it’s good if there are teams that still want me to play for them. That makes me feel pretty good, particular in a down season,” Berkman said. “I still have confidence that I could play at a high level. It’s a good feeling to hear these trade rumors. Obviously, these scouts from other teams feel that same way or else I wouldn’t be in the conversation.”
Rams have finally signed there first overall pick in quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford played for Oklahoma and led the nation with 48 touchdown passes in 2008 and also winning the 2008 Heisman Trophy. He played in only three games in 2009 because he had to under go season ending shoulder surgery.
The Rams are looking to build around Bradford and make him the centerpiece of the franchise. Well the Rams can’t get any worse after having only 1 win last season and 15 losses under the first season of Steve Spagnuolo being the coach.
The deal that Bradford signed was a 6 year deal worth $78 million with $50 million in guaranteed money. The $50 million that was given out by the Rams was the most guaranted money ever given out in the NFL. Read more
After Roy Williams had a horrible season last season with the Cowboys they drafted Dez Bryant in the 1st round and he is battling Williams for that top spot many think he will become the number one guy in Dallas.
Last week wide receiver Roy Williams from the Dallas Cowboys asked first round pick Dez Bryant to carry his shoulder pads to the locker room and he refused. It created a lot of stir around the NFL and many players viewed in with there opinion on the situation.
Aaron Rodgers quarterback of the Packers was quoted as saying on Twitter “Picking up some bills, having a few pranks pulled on you and doing some odd jobs for the vets is a small price to pay to gain respect.”
Dez Bryant told reporters he wouldn’t carry the pads he felt he was here to play football not carry another players pads. Read more
