Jose Bautista Named Cover Athlete for MLB 12 The Show

Sony Computer Entertainment Canada (SCEC) announced today the Canadian edition of MLB® 12 The Show™ featuring Toronto Blue Jays All-Star right fielder Jose Bautista as cover athlete for the number-one selling and rated Major League Baseball® (MLB®) game franchise. This marks the first time that MLB The Show has had a separate cover athlete for the Canadian edition. The second runner-up for the 2011 American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, Bautista had another stellar season at the plate leading the Majors in home runs with 43. Just in time for Spring Training, the Canadian version of MLB 12 The Show will be available for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) and PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita) systems on March 6, 2012. MLB The Show has been and continues to be the highest ranked officially licensed baseball title of this console generation (according to and the number-one rated sports game over the past four years (according to delivering true-to-life gameplay, authentic franchise and season modes, and incredible detail not found in any other sports game. With various new key features and enhancements to the critically acclaimed series, MLB 12 The Show is poised to continue the franchise’s reign as the premier MLB licensed game on any platform. This year’s edition will showcase full PlayStation®Move motion controller support, a revamped broadcast presentation system, and the all new PS Vita version. Specifically for PS Vita, MLB 12 The Show will utilize all of the core gameplay features found in the PS3 version and will allow players to access their Franchise, Season, and Road to The Show save files from either their PS3 or PS Vita, providing a big league experience that fans can take with them on the road, anytime, anywhere. “As we continue to deliver one of the most immersive baseball experiences on the market, we’re thrilled to have a player like Jose Bautista as the cover athlete for the Canadian edition of MLB 12 The Show,” said Stephen Turvey, General Manager, SCEC. “He had another stellar year at the plate in 2011 and we hope that 2012 proves to be an even bigger success for Jose, as well as MLB 12 The Show.” MLB 12 The Show is the first game cover for Bautista who joins an elite cast of MLB The Show cover athletes and spokespersons to represent the franchise, including Boston Red Sox All-Star first baseman and MLB 12 The Show (US edition) cover athlete Adrian Gonzalez, Minnesota Twins catcher and 2009 AL MVP Joe Mauer, Red Sox second baseman and 2008 AL MVP Dustin Pedroia, Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, and New York Mets third baseman David Wright. MLB 12 The Show will also showcase the Blue Jays’ brand new 2012 uniforms. “Being named the cover athlete for the Canadian edition of MLB 12 The Show is an exciting honour for me,” said Jose Bautista, American League Home Run Champion. “This is hands-down the best baseball game out there, which makes my inclusion as both cover athlete and an ambassador a very special one.” In his breakout 2010 season, Bautista led the Major Leagues and set a Blue Jays record with 54 home runs, surpassing the 47 hit by George Bell in 1987, while also finishing first in extra-base hits (92) and T-1st in total bases (351). With continued career highs being set in many offensive categories, Bautista became the fourth player in history to record at least 35 doubles, 50 home runs, and 100 walks in the same season, becoming just the sixteenth player in history to hit 54 or more home runs in a season. In 2011 he impressed at the plate once again being named AL Player of the Month in April and May, an award he won twice in 2010 (August and September). Bautista received an all-time record 7.5 million All-Star votes in 2011, won his second consecutive AL Silver Slugger Award, and also for the second straight year won the 2011 Hank Aaron Award as the most outstanding offensive performer in the American League.
