Veho Pebble Portable Battery Pack Charger Review
The nature of my job is such that I am always on the move. Whether I am flying, on the train, in the car or on the bus, I am always travelling. Nothing makes the time fly by during travel better than using a personal media device. Whether its a Play Station Portable, an iPad, iPod, iPhone, or even a miniature DVD player, these various devices always keep me busy and make the travel time fly by. However, when I am on a long journey, without access to a power outlet my issue is that many of these devices only last for a couple of hours. That just isn’t long enough. The folks at Veho have come up with a solution to my problem. The Veho XT Pebble Portable Battery Pack Charger can store enough power to fully recharge most electronic devices up to four times.
The Pebble is a pocket sized portable battery pack that comes with eleven different dedicated tips that allow you to charge practically any device under the sun. All you need to do is plug the Pebble into your wall, and charge it fully (I recommend leaving it overnight). You can then use it to recharge most of the popular mobile phones on the market, including the iPhone, as well as all generations of iPods. If you are on vacation and have your digital camera, the Pebble can recharge it, and even your trusty camcorder. If you are travelling and have a portable GPS the Pebble can recharge that too, along with your child’s portable gaming systems like the Nintendo DS, PSP and many more.
Veho claims that the Pebble can recharge your device giving you up to 1500 standby hours. This varies depending on your device, as power hungry units like the iPhone 3GS and the PSP will eat up power quickly especially with screen brightness all the way up and wifi and games running. With a fully charged Pebble, I recharged my iPhone 4 approximately 4 times before the Pebble was out of stored power. That is quite a feat for such a small, practical battery pack!
The Pebble benefits from a rather large 5000 mAH battery. Many competitors offer much smaller options, and those that do compare are much pricier. Despite the large battery capacity, the Pebble is small and sleek. It will fit in your pocket, and as I mentioned earlier, it comes with 11 different adapter tips for most popular devices. The USB and Mini USB tips are quite valuable as they can charge practically anything! The charger comes in an attractive black rubber finish, and has a basic light display to indicate how much power is left in the Pebble’s reserve. For your convenience, (and a nice added touch) Veho has included a neoprene carry pouch with pockets for the various tips that are included.
The Pebble is easy to use, and quite convenient for those like me who are always on the go. I really don’t have any negative comments about it other than the fact that it is $87.00, which may be somewhat steep for younger customers. However, the Pebble is well worth the money and is a much needed and appreciated electronics accessory for people that are frequently travelling, and sick of having their portable media players die on them in the middle of a great movie or a great game.
